Project description

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant decrease in physical activity across the population, negatively impacting both physical and mental health. This project aims to promote physical activity in three countries – Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland – which were significantly affected by the pandemic. The primary goal is to increase physical activity levels among various population groups, improve physical fitness, and prevent health complications associated with low activity levels.

The project includes the development of exercise programs and educational materials focused on the health benefits
of physical activity. It also aims to foster collaboration between universities and professional institutions, including Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Charles University in Prague, Opole University of Technology, and the Rehabilitation Prague School. These institutions will work together to develop recommendations for increasing physical activity and organizing international conferences.

The project’s outcomes will include increased awareness of the importance of physical activity and motivation for individuals to adopt an active lifestyle, contributing to better physical and mental health.

To successfully implement the project, we have set the following objectives:

  • Assessing Physical Activity Levels: Evaluate the physical activity status of the target group in each partner country.
  • Increasing Physical Activity Among University Students: Promote physical activity during and after the COVID-19 pandemic among university students.
  • Comparing Results and Drawing Conclusions: Analyze how the pandemic negatively impacted physical activity, health, and performance. Based on surveys, we will summarize how COVID-19 affected people’s access to, engagement with, and attitudes towards physical activity in each partner country.
  • Communicating Partial Findings Through Conferences and Lectures: We will continuously present interim results at national and international conferences and lectures, promoting awareness of the pandemic’s negative impact on people’s activity levels and its repercussions on health and performance. We aim to generate public interest in the topic and stimulate discussion.
  • Creating Resources for Professionals: Develop guides for physiotherapists, PE instructors, sports medicine doctors, and trainers on the importance of physical activity for high-risk groups vulnerable to hypoactivity.
  • Developing Educational Materials: Create practical recommendations and recovery plans to increase physical activity following COVID-19. Through partner collaboration and expert support, we will provide evidence-based recommendations and strategies outlining the risks of hypoactivity, the exacerbation of these risks due to COVID-19, and effective ways to address hypoactivity. These resources will summarize theories related to musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory diseases, including causes, prevention, risk reduction, and strategies for management during and after illness.
  • Presenting and Promoting Recommendations on National and International Levels: At the project’s conclusion, we will host
an international conference to present our findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Building Sustainable Relationships: Through lectures, publications, and promotional activities, we aim to highlight the importance of physical activity for human health on an international level, reaching the widest possible audience.
